Holes are kinda empty.... have you noticed?

Missing someone.
Now, why would something like that happen to any of us?
Come to think of it, do we really miss them, or just their presence?Perhaps we miss only what they did for us?
But this is not he point my friends.
We miss them.
Whether it's their affect, the love we have for them, or just that they were a warm body to sit next to, we still hold an aching space for them when they are absent.
No one has died, no one has moved away, and those who are going soon have yet to leave.
But I have discovered that my missing loved ones in my life is not wrong.
I't not against some moral code that sports the words "Missing anyone for longer than a little while is unnecessary and a waste of time. It makes you a weak and miserable person to be around."
My emotions are perfectly valid. Feeling a loss when someone I care for is removed from my immediate life is normal and natural.
Too often when I confess my loss I am bombarded with attempts to bury the feelings, make it better, shove it out of my mind with thoughts like "they'll be back soon" "It's ok" " Let's go do something to take it off your mind."
These are fine a dandy when we need a distraction. But what if we just want to be fixed? Just being them back so I don't have to miss them anymore? Just for an afternoon....
But that, sadly is out of our hands.
We try to compensate by replacing them with things, friends, work, anything!
It doesn't fix it when we turn to share something with them and we remember, with a chasm of emptiness, that they aren't there to laugh with, cry with, or argue with even!
I've had plenty of comfort, distraction, and compensation.
Can I fill this hole please?
Just fix it dang it!
No temporary fillers, I want to be done enduring.

It will be fine...
It always is...
I will continue to miss them until once again I can wrap my arms around them and breath again.
Every,
Single,
One of them.

  1. Well thought out and expressed. Some holes can never be filled...covered over, maybe, put out of immediate sight, but still they exist. And we learn.
